Pros

There are a lot of good people, and if you get hired by a good manager you can enjoy a productive job without interference. there are a vAriety of opportunities within such a complex organization.

Cons

Probably the most severe case of good old boy politics I've seen in the oil patch, and that says something. If you get on the the opposite side of the ruling party, beware of the backstabbing that is headed your way. In grained and supported in the culture.

Pros

Benefits. Technology (much of it acquired, no organic developments). Talented Engineers and technical managers. Hard-working frontline employees.

Cons

Top management incongruence. Excellence and customer focus are empty statements with no allocation of resources to implement. Debt, poor credit, and failed executive leadership compounded with current market spell desperation and poor morale. No surprise CEO placed in the 25 worst of 2015 from yahoo finance and no one holds the Top Legal Counsel position for more than a few months. Talented COO was dismissed and the position eliminated with laconic statement. Perhaps too much of a challenge for his boss.

Pros

I've been working with a great group of people for the longest time and the atmosphere in R&D is very "academic". The work environment within our facility is definitely the biggest "pro" anyone can ask for.

Cons

Unlike in the field, in R&D there is very little room for growth and you will be doing the same thing for the same money for as long as you shall live. As the company has grown bigger and bigger bureaucracy and politics has reared its ugly head even in R&D which has turned the place less lovable over the years.
