      Great people to work with, poor pay and leadership

      Pros

      - fantastic people and team - ability to work with driven, motivated and fun people - good brand reputation in the market - great IP, methods, tools

      Cons

      - poor remuneration (ie no bonus) and benefits - poor work life balance (although this is dependent on the project / manager) - requirement to travel (difficult to plan your life around) - little choice in the type of projects you are on - in that way, your career path isn't in your control and quite often end up being an 'expert' (purely based on experience) on something you had no intention of being an expert in.

      Pros

      Extensive experience in terms of the types of work, issues and industries. Met some very smart people (and some very arrogant yet incompetent ones too).

      Cons

      No matter what leadership says, there is no work-life balance till you reach the experienced manager (i.e., manager with at least a couple of years experience) or senior manager stage. Too clubby an environment where who knows you (not who you know) matters a lot. Meaning how good (or bad) your PR is with your advisor, manager(s) and partner(s) has a huge bearing on whether you get a good rating come review time or not.

      Pros

      - If you're working to build pedigree on your resume/CV, Deloitte is a name that is widely recognized. - Training is encouraged. - Exposure to a variety of clients.

      Cons

      - The concept of "one Deloitte" is just a myth. There's a virtually insurmountable dichotomy between the public sector and commercial sector. Want commercial experience? If you've joined the public sector side, forget it. Look elsewhere. - Be prepared to be aligned with projects that you're not qualified for and/or are not interested in. Like most other consulting firms, Deloitte is just a body shop. If you're lucky enough to land on a good project and work under leadership that protects you, you may have a shot at advancing in your career. Otherwise, expect to grind out long hours on a project that doesn't hold your interest / match your skills.
