Pros

-Christmas party -Employee appreciation in October -Some lovely coworkers -Benefits

Cons

-Management team is disorganized with horrible communication skills -HR department is for the company, not for the employee -Toxic atmosphere, people are scared when bosses walk around -No breaks allowed... even though we are legally entitled for 2 - 15 minute breaks a day. Meaning, if we would like to step out and grab a Starbucks we should -Can't keep employees happy... constant turnover due to the drama

Pros

Transit-friendly commute – Texcan is 2 bus stops away from Scott Road Station. You can take any of 3-4 different buses from the station. Potential for growth – You can grow in the job, move to another function at the same Texcan branch or another branch in a different city, apply internally to work at Sonepar (parent company) or apply internally to work for another operating company within the Sonepar family. The cable industry itself is also growing with demand for cable in greenhouses, data centers, electric car charging stations, mining, etc. Stability – The company has been around for about 40 years in a mature industry that is *almost* recession-proof. Benefits: extended health and RRSP matching – Benefits are generous and there is flexibility. If you need more coverage in one area (ie. Dental) but less in another area (ie. Health), you can set up a plan that works for you. For RRSP matching, it’s a pretty generous program compared to ones I’ve had in the past. Interesting work – This will vary from person to person, of course, but I find my day-to-day work interesting. Safety – Employee safety is taken seriously with different actions taken by the team to ensure that everyone works safely. Modern office with super clean warehouse

Cons

Large company – As with any large company, things may sometimes take longer than expected. Large team – I came from a smaller team, so this took some time for me to get used to. With a larger team, you will need to spend more time getting to know people. Not as many food options immediately nearby – There’s a Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Quiznos and Burger King nearby, but if you don’t drive, you’re limited to those places. Industrial park setting – When you’re waiting for the bus, it can get kind of dusty. Open floor plan – It can sometimes get a bit loud when everyone is talking on the phone. I listen to music when I’m working.
