Pros

Flexible working (not unusual to do homeworking) Generous pay and benefits Nice offices Great location with view over the Southbank Senior staff are approachable Work with colleagues all over the world Learning and development opportunities for staff at all levels Staff encouraged to change roles every 4 years (lateral or promotion), which is great for career development and deeper understanding of the company Annual staff survey is taken seriously Colleagues are collaborative and easy to work with

Cons

It is not uncommon to work long hours (evening / weekend) although the company does encourage work / life balance (but workloads can make it difficult to achieve that) Yearly feedback and 'score' can be confusing and demotivating. Confusing due to anonymous comments collected from colleagues, often without context. Demotivating due to 'relative ranking' which means you are not rated simply by how well you met your goals but also how well you scored against others (so you could get a lower score and exceed your targets, or a better score when you only met your targets) Projects and processes tend to be over-engineered. This can make them complicated, long-winded and confusing. Company values can be quite 'cult-ish' such that documented 'correct' ways of thinking and behaving are forcefully imposed, it can be quite suffocating, and feel like being programmed as an automaton.

Pros

WORK life balance and that is the only good things about Shell

Cons

* Extremely Bureaucratic as everyone was too busy managing their boss and stakeholders * Its a Soul Sucking company so it is not suitable for anyone who is looking to have a career development or any opportunities as your boss will be too busy taking all your credits for his/her own promotion.* Its a company are non D&I focus (even if they pretend to be) and silo thinking when nothing gets done in Shell * Strong bias and favouritism on their graduates even they are totally crap and dumb, they will still get all the opportunities and credits from the team members which totally demotivates good employees who are actually performing as Shell are just way toooooo biased * Does a lot of good talking but no idea what to do * No accountability and no responsibility from the management and its all about how good you can do your sweet talking. * Poor benefits and outdated performance management that are unfair.

Pros

Job rotations policy. Each role is for 4-6 years. Good exposure to many parts of the energy business Great flexi work options available (work from home, part time, job share) Medical benefits cover spouse and dependent children. Deductible is SGD 200 per year, employee pays 20%, Shell pays the other 80% for all medical visits above the deductible. (Generally) Intelligent, collaborative and knowledgeable folks to work with. You can call up anyone in Shell to find out what they do, and you get their time! (Generally) Discussions are civil, even when they are heated.

Cons

Finance jobs in non finance operations "FO" countries are being offshored more and more to KL, Chennai, Manila and Krakow. Even Glasgow FO center was shut, likely getting too high cost for the shared service center model to work. Change in CEO every 4 years means a change in strategy, which looks like more the flavor of the day rather than adding real value. Almost constant re organizations. Stack ranking against peers. Only high-potential folks get to choose assignments, especially now when there are more internal candidates looking to switch roles than there are roles available.
