Pros

Interns are given a project to work on with specific deliverables, ensuring you are given meaniingful work. The work culture is relaxed and inclusive and I was only ever treated as a valued member of the team. There are a number of develpoment opportunities (Shell has its own database of courses) to take advantage of, and I was fortunate enough to travel to Europe as part of my internship. A successful iinternship leads to being offered a place on the graduate scheme.

Cons

Things can often move quite slowly. New ideas are welcomed but it can take an awfully long time for such things to come to fruition. An extensive array of opinions are sought on most activities. On the one hand this avoids mistakes being made, but it can become quite frustrating.

Pros

- good work /life balance if you do not wish to work long hours regardless of the amount of work (however some managers see this as a negative and will give you a very low individual performance number that will reflect badly on your increment and future job within Shell) - most colleagues are willing to help - considering today's economy on Alberta pay and benefits are pretty good

Cons

- beware of your manager; do not assume they have your back - 10 years ago Shell Canada was a good company to work for and was fair. Today it's who you know and not what you know -many managers have an agenda to show they are on board with cost cutting. As soon as your assignment move date comes up they are willing to let the experienced talent go and hire inexperienced cheaper staff. - majority of the time the staff that may have been with the company for over 15 Yeats are told to find another job or leave the company just and extension to their current assignment is not given And they are expected to train their totally inexperienced successor before they can leave - current management in Canada is not thinking of the company or their repoetees but only busy buttering up their own bosses
