Decent, but already losing its way

Pros

Company is leading edge in technology, the future. Generally successful in attracting high quality staff, low to high. They pay well and if you joined early enough, your options could deliver a nice nest egg. Whether or not you agree with your goals and targets, they are typically well communicated.

Cons

If you're an ex-colleague of anyone on the sr leadership team you may be allowed the benefits inside the bubble. For everyone else: you will be digging for gold dust and hopefully be deemed ok. This company should be avoided if you think on your feet and are proactive. Employees will be asked to respond to every whim of their manager and smile while running out to comply. All the bling outside charisma of the 'startup' culture doesn't mean a thing... The culture is mostly corporate, risk averse and set in 50 shades of grey. Customers are treated well before signing, and pretty much ignored until they raise their hand. It all could have been so much better but I feel ServiceNow has missed the opportunity to build a great company. Shareholders won't mind in the short run.

Pros

Great pay, thriving market, happy customers, it's fun to bring a product to customers that actually works. I worked with some of the brightest people I've ever met here. Prior to the IPO, this was the best company to work for in the technology sector.

Cons

There is no culture of employee development. There are also two standards for employees - if you're tied into Slootman's team from a previous company or not. If you're in, you have the opportunity to advance, sometimes despite poor personal performance, if not, you can grind your fingers to the bone and be anchored in place or even demoted. You're either in or you're out. Gender diversity is very poor, with nearly all leadership and management roles filled by white males. The workplace itself is very sterile and tense - people don't smile. Directives are top-down with the sole goal of driving numbers. There is no vision as to what the purpose of the company is other than to make money in the short time when cloud replacements for legacy systems is still a novelty. The company does not give back to the San Jose or San Diego community in any real way. This is a great place to work if you follow orders without question and capitalize on every opportunity to stroke your manager's and director's ego. Customer focus is a formality - formerly simple, customer-friendly pricing was replaced by a complex matrix of pricing designed only to break out numbers for Wall street and position NOW with the PaaS players. The company's soul died the day of the IPO. Now it's just another EMC or Oracle. A lot of people will get rich and they will continue to sell a lot of product, but the current leadership have squandered the opportunity that Fred created to build a truly great company worthy of the fantastic technology.

Pros

good place to learn and grow if you want to dedicate your entire life to that free lunch on fridays only some free snacks and drinks

Cons

i worked here as a software engineer and this place has the worst work life balance. they fire people at the drop of a hat. good engineers and old timers have been let go because their performance was perceived to be not adequate by the management. they constantly expect you to deliver high quality code at an unbelievable pace, under lots of pressure and phenomenal amounts of stress. you might as well kiss your evenings and weekends goodbye when you join this company or else you can kiss your job goodbye. don't expect that if you've been here long enough they will cut you some slack. you are perpetually under the radar. another nasty thing is that they tend to let you go close to the date when your stocks are about to mature. that way you leave the company with nothing. if you are a young single person and programming is what your life is all about then this is a great place for you. if you have a family to take care of or there is more to your life than your day job then don't join this place. this place is a slaughter house where you constantly fear if your head is next on the chopping block. do your health and family a favor and don't work here. that's what matters in the long run.
