Pros

Career growth and ability to change functions within the company. SLB allows engineers to transistion in to rolls in personal, sales, management, markenting, technical, ect. You are not stuck in one division for life.

Cons

No work life balance and employees are relocated a lot (sometimes not always to the nicest places). Transferes sometimes come out of the blue and with very little time (about 1-2 weeks) to sell your house and start in a new city.

Pros

Most of the people with whom I've worked with at Schlumberger are very bright. Also, Schlumberger's international presence gives one an opportunity to travel and meet people from other cultures.

Cons

One's career progress is very heavily impacted by being in the right business unit--much more so than individual competence.
