Pros

The turnover rate is very high at this location, so there is a constant influx of young engineers. The culture (within the engineering group) was great. Experience with exotic materials, some limited design opportunities (tooling, manufacturing "widgets", etc.) 3 weeks vacation and a week long plant shutdown.

Cons

Compensation. This location in particular is hemorrhaging engineers because of the lack of competitive compensation. Most of my peers started in other industries for 20%-50% more than Lockheed pays. Difficult to get promotions, raises are 2%-3%. No bonus for engineers, but hourly employees receive a quarterly bonus. Excessive red tape. It is very difficult to get anything accomplished at Lockheed Martin. At this particular location, there is no accountability for touch labor. Quality defects are blamed on the process (and thus the engineer), even when video evidence proves otherwise. Management's fear of unionization protects the touch labor from accountability for quality or conduct. After several years of working for Lockheed Martin, I left and accepted an engineering position in the oil and gas industry for 50% more money.

Pros

Higher than average salaries, strong US parent performance, worked with a few exceptional engineers, pleasant facilities.

Cons

Poor recruitment process - operate a bums on seat policy to demonstrate resourcing up of the projects to customers, regardless of whether that function is required at that time. Leads to long stints in the wrong post, as evidenced by the low staff moral and significantly higher than the UK average turnover for the business as a whole. The electronics function was the poor relation, under respected and not empowered. There was a strong preference by senior management to subcontract even the simplest electronic design activities to its own competitors while the internal electronics design function scratched sound for titbits. The was an exceptionally high turnover of staff from the electronics function in the three months either side of my departure with 5 perms leaving from a core team of 10.

Pros

Quite good wages and friday off every other week

Cons

Terrible disaster of a company, which Lockheed took over, big mistake for them, should have left it for dead. Still its not too late and probably will drop them like a stone when they fail big style on the contracts. The only people that are happy working there must be on pills, so i wouldnt listen to them! Most appalling place i ever worked in, dreadful politics, useless staff and megalomaniac management. Rampent culture of framing employees for senior staff failures by forcing them to write documents with content that would incriminate themselves in the event of failure. These failures would most certainly occur which is why the senior staff dont want their name on the documents. Those that spot this and refuse to play along are then bullied by management till they quit. Relevant HR arent based on site and do absolutely nothing if you complain. Almost 50% turnover of staff in just one year, sadly they will land in another company that is most likey the same.
