Pros

When I joined LBNL I was new to the job and to the country. It has been a great learning experience from a scientific and cultural point of view.

Cons

LBNL has a rather large campus, with many facilities but it lacks a child-care center and the prices of the only on-site cafeteria are rather high.

Facilities are top notch. Lots of technical support

Cons

Too much science directed towards application and users.. Most discoveries made by professors who use lab resources and are supported by their home institutions. Think about this when considering a long term position here.
