I joined Ipsen with the VIE program organized by business France for young talents for developing their careers abroad.
I´ll be brief:
-I moved to London to start the internship program and the first 3 months I was not being paid by the company and I really struggled paying rent and bills.
-4 first months I arrived in my new role I had no work to do because of changes that happened in the team, which was a loss taking into account that my internship at the beginning was signed for 12 months - I´d like to mention that my experience with the team was very good.
-At the end of my internship, this department who was managing my contract they were giving to me and my manager hopes till the end regarding the extension of the internship in a different country and 2 WEEKS BEFORE my visa and contract in UK expires, a senior position from this department decided to open a debate regarding the location claiming that due to a rule of the company they just can keep global positions in 3 hub offices and the location I was asking for was not feasible.
This debate and this person's decision at the very last moment had serious consequences in my personal and professional life at the time (I couldn´t manage my present neither my future being abroad). Even my team tried to find a solution but 2 weeks notice was not enough time for it.
And the most serious was the fact that they do different treatment between employees, because there are many other VIEs and global people working in non hub offices recently, so depending on who you´re they give you different opportunities and treatment.
My experience was that they just don´t care or take care about people. They always speak about transparency, integrity and adding value but they just CREATE BARRIERS.
Now I´ve returned to my country without a job and unable to organize my life, in addition to other economic and rental problems caused by the late and bad news from the company.
Learning from this year: NEVER EVER TRUST THIS DEPARTMENT AGAIN.
