Pros

1. Always many new projects and clients 2. If you like to move every 6-9 months, you'll love this place 3. If you are an Indian IIT grad and you write code, they'll love you 4. Great place for Freshers (newly hired) because you'll be thrust into highly important roles early

Cons

1. VERY little management roles outside of India. 99% of the management and senior management roles are filled with Indian nationals living in the US. 2. Anyone besides Indian males will be ignored for key positions 3. If you don't write code, you should run and not walk 4. Internal operational systems are really outdated 5. Margin pressure is ridiculasly high... 6. The consistency of the quality of the work of the offshore teams varies wildly from engagement to engagement.. 7. Clients are constantly oversold on HCL's capabilities... 25 yr olds are sold as "Sr. Architects", 8. Bonus payments are seemingly derived from a game of darts played by someone in Noida.. no rhyme or reason 9. Expect to work a regular shift from 9-6pm and then enjoy evenings from 9pm till midnight Sunday through Thursday

Pros

Exposure to tech giants that actually appreciate talent.

Cons

Terrible salary, terrible management, terrible communication, terrible benefits. Vineet is just greedy. HCL will charge 100K+ to clients like microsoft and then turn around and give their employee 50% or less of that. Most of us have some fictional manager that never speaks to their underlings. probably b/c the manager is in India and we are in the states actually making money for the company. Want a raise? don't bother they tend to give out 1%. thats right 1%. if you break that down to an hourly rate its roughly 25 cents an hour. basically your no better than an over educated grocery cashier. On top of that you get to listen to Vineet's "weekend thoughts." Which in my opinion is nothing but garbage. dont get on board with this company. Nothing but spam e-mail from India's head quarters. Apparently everyone in India has a lot of free time to make colorful e-mails about nothing. Dont get me started on their employee portal. What a train wreck. A software development company that makes terrible software. Every Microsoft FTE I've spoken with feels that HCL is the worst of all vendor companies in terms of talent and pay. you know its bad when the client tells a vendor their underpaid. Their HQ is not in sunnyvale, thats just where they mail checks from. Not one person that represents HCL in America has one shred of power.

Pros

The company was a pleasure to work for until it was purchased by the Indian firm, HCL. All has changed since that time. See Cons.

Cons

HCL has the weakest management team I have ever encountered. Most seem to be castoffs from IBM or other larger firms. HCL forces the consultants to use a very tiny US travel agency. It was selected only because the owner is related to an executive at HCL. The cost to clients has more than doubled in some instances. HCL also charges the client a full-day per diem, but only pays consultants for the actuals. HCL takes the difference. This is desperation on the part of HCL execs.
