Pros

The only positive thing I can say is that perhaps other parts of the country aren't as bad.

Cons

Do not work for Compass at the University of Pittsburgh. This is the worst upper management team I have ever worked for in my life. As a salaried employee, you are REQUIRED to work AT LEAST 50 hours a week. You are scheduled 10 hour shifts. Some starting at 6am, some ending at 1am. You could work until 1am and be expected to open the next morning at 6am. There is ZERO work / life balance as you are working all the time, with very few days off. You would be scheduled on 13 - 14 day stretches without any days off in between. Sadly, you work hard because you care about your staff and the students you serve. They manage by fear. They literally tell you that they want you, as a manager, to manage your staff to fear you. I don't treat people that way. My staff liked me and respect me and they had zero respect for upper management. The upper management is unqualified for their positions. They hire their unqualified friends for upper management positions. It's a VERY toxic environment. You can do you job nearly perfect, but they literally try to find something wrong so that they can berate you and criticize you. Myself and a co-worker were literally berated and screamed at a Manager's meeting in front of our colleagues. It was completely unprofessional and disrespectful. You feel like you are always walking on eggshells. You can't even go to HR because they are a bunch of gossips and cannot be trusted - the complete opposite of how an HR department is supposed to be. They purposely drive out the good managers - I believe it's because they feel threatened by them. I saw so many good upper management and managers get treated so horribly until they quit. I loved my staff, but I had to quit because it was causing me way too much anxiety.

Pros

After 2.5 years with the company, I am still just as energized, enthusiastic, & passionate about my job today as I was on Day 1. This will be the best "big little" company you'll ever work for. Compass Group, a HUGE global organization, has 28 different sectors and sub-sectors. You would be working for 1 of the sectors which feels like a small family owned and operated company. I have direct relationships with everyone from our hourly / front line associates to the CEO himself. In fact, I've been able to snag a few photos and mingle with Gary Green at several different events including the CCC at BB&T Ballpark and the PGA golf tournament at Quail Hollow. The people are what make Compass Group so special.

Cons

Working for a food & beverage company, you'll probably gain a couple pounds because the food is amazing and is always available & offered :)

Pros

After being a new regional manager at compass group working at a university, I took this job not because of the pay but because I wanted a change from working for Sodexo corps after almost 20 years. But let me tell you Compass Group does not have any professional clue what so ever on to treat their employees at all not even their long term employees after taking over a contract at any faculty. I will be returning to Sodexo not only for more money but where all employees are treated with 100% respect and get treat with honor and not like a clone or a number. The CEO of Compass Group Gary Green is a complete 1,000% a idiot beyond unprofessional. Here I come Sodexo I'm coming home!

Cons

There is no con just to Compass Group. Any business or school that uses Compass Group needs to cancel all their contracts with them immediately before you get a bad reputation on any campus from students and their parents and faculty of employees. Tell every one you know not to go to work for this low rated company its not worth it at all not even for a part time job. run fast to a time clock bunch out and never go back, and get a job some place else fast.
