Pros

Fitness center, bank, nice Cafeteria, still some very nice people who work there.

Cons

Company culture has plummeted since Hank Becton passed away. Used to be people stayed for 20-30 years. Now there is little to no respect for people who have been loyal. They feel people from the outside know more so they actively recruit from outside instead to promoting from within. BD was always a great manufacturing company. They produced high quality products at a competitive price. Now they want to be a great marketing company so they feel need to bring in talent from outside company.

Well-established company in the biotech sector with a good culture.

Pros

The company culture is very good, and the work is very meaningful (improving healthcare). Preserves work-life balance over all. Employment is generally stable although several rounds of small-scale layoffs are present in recent years (2010-2014).

Cons

Perks are average and are not sufficiently attractive. Promotion is not easy to come by for experienced professionals (in functional areas). Compensation is probably not sufficiently competitive but understandable given the stability and comfort offered by a well-established big company like BD.

Pros

In R&D, the environment is fairly laid back. Dress is casual and no one is micro-managing your hours. The instruments we work on are cutting edge and so are the technologies (for the most part). There is still maintenance on some legacy instruments that requires old development systems to be fired up here and there, but for the most part things are moving forward. C#, C++, VS 2013, TFS 2013, etc. Great place to sharpen your design and programming skills!

Cons

The software engineering group has become top heavy, and there is not a lot of room for advancement. Can be here 15 years before getting promoted to next level. Also, management will not hesitate to hire from the outside right into higher level positions, when there are people internally who could fill the roles.
