Not my cup of tea

Pros

Stability, pay and benefits, mission driven organization

Cons

Tedious work, culture of CYA, absurd volume of deliverables and legacy processes that consume nearly all available time. The epitome of a massive corporation with all the meetings, pre-meetings, and pre-pre-meetings you could ask for. Some people like that..I did not.

Cutting Salaries

Pros

Good technology to work with.

Cons

Abbott has eliminated cost-of-living increases in some of the worst years of inflation in history. They are now cutting base salaries for their clinical engineers and claiming we can make it up in quarterly bonuses, which are not guaranteed and are taxed more heavily because they are bonuses. The cost of food and insurance has doubled. This could be the worst case of corporate greed I have ever seen. We were told it was to save costs in anticipation of reduced earnings for medical device sales. As of the latest Q3 reports, sales surged with 11.7% growth in diabetes care and heart products. While I struggle to figure out how to sustain my family at a reduced salary, the CEO brags about the strength of the diversified business model.

Pros

Management is ready to give you responsibilities and growth opportunities once they see you can handle it.

Cons

It will be difficult to achieve your KPIs without having to OT. Even more so if you’re involved in Operations. If you tell management that you need to OT to achieve your targets, they may tell you that you’re not efficient. So I guess the whole organization is inefficient. If you tell your manager that you’re overloaded, they will get back to you in 3 working weeks and they will ask you for suggestions on how to resolve it. Salary may be high on the surface but the $/hr of work leaves more to be desired.
