Pros

Flexible working hours and management tried to keep employees after government contracts ended. Company 401K matching contributions were competitive.

Cons

Medical benefits were limited to a consumer drive high deductible plan, or a low quality HMO. Education benefits were limited to certain fields of study. Human resources and benefit information is hard to find among different websites. Too much reliance on technology to address HR needs.

Pros

It's a big, relatively stable company. For the most part in the IT area I'm in, if you perform at a mediocre level you're job is secure. In years past they've been fair about trying to give back to the employees. I can remember a cash payout with SBC prior to one merger and another to show appreciation for working through the union strike a few years back.

Cons

Almost no upwards movement, at least in our organization. I can count on one hand the number of people who have had a significant promotion in the last 5 years. Our group is very insulated, too. If you want to move anywhere, it's easier to move outside the company than to another job internal to AT&T.
