Interview
The interview process was directed and thorough.
Recruiter call - The recruiter was very professional, general questions about professional background, questions on experience pertaining to core job functions and interest in Uber. If you get a call from them, this step shouldn't be an issue.
Analytics v3.1 - Coming from a startup, this wasn't anything new however I spent the night researching the structure of the test. Be comfortable with data manipulation, knowing these functions: Max, Min, Nestedif, Pivot tables, Basic sums, Sumif, Vlookup and Hlookup. It is a combination of multiple choice based on guided data analysis and short answers on how you would make business decisions with the information. As most people have said it is a lengthly exam, it took me the full 2 hours.
Hiring manager call – I finished the exam Sunday morning and heard back from the recruiter I had passed that evening. The next step was a call with the hiring manager. She asked me to review my experience before diving into the specifics of the job. Be prepared to answer situational questions and talk deeply about how you would do the job. We clicked on many points, which made me confident I would be moving on.
Peer call – The next step was to speak to someone currently doing the job I was interviewing for. This was further explanation of the job and more situational questions about how I would make decisions on the job. My advice here, is ask good questions to show you understand the scope of the position and think about solving problems.
Organizational manager call – I had a competing offer so this step was skipped.
In-person Panel - The big day! I had to prepare a presentation based on job-specific data analysis and my management style. The panel was made up of 5 individuals form various parts of the organization. It was a testing and impressive experience. I stuck to my slides but I’m glad I stopped to ask for questions, this is when the real interview started. I was asked to deviate and think bigger, starting a more holistic discussion where I was asked how to solve issues they are currently dealing with. After the panel I met with a manager from the community operations team to assess culture fit and interest in working for Uber. The final step was being walked out by the recruiter.
Final notes - After a week I was given a verbal offer. The interview process impressed me more than the job itself. Despite Uber’s size they are still a startup yet have well thought-out structure.
Good luck!

Is partner wait time (at onboarding centers) even the right metric to focus on? What is the real focus?

Interview
In July 16, I applied for an operations manager role for UberEATS launching in my city. A HR representative sent me an email mid-Sept on Sunday 8pm to let me know that I need to complete an excel test online by Wednesday evening 12am midnight.
I really wanted the job and was grateful for a shot at it so I practiced hard starting from Sunday night till Monday evening and wrote the test on Tuesday evening after a long day of work. I decided to write the test a day earlier as the email did not say 12am on which time zone and I didn't want to be disqualified as a result of submitting the results late.
The test was actually not too bad. My current job requires me to do a lot of work on excel, especially on pivot tables and vlookups and those were the skill set they seem to be looking for. I think they were testing whether you can distill information from a table of data to solve problems. As long as you can summarise the data within a table in excel, you are going to do well.
There were a few question in the test related to short essays, which I guess test your creativity on how to solve problems if you were running a startup. As long as you come up with an answer and can back it up with some rationale, I think you will be fine.
I completed my test with 15 minutes extra time.
By Tuesday the following week, someone from Uber's office contacted me to ask me for an available time for a video interview. It was for Friday in the same week and I accepted it immediately, excited for the opportunity to interview.
During the video interview, the connection to the video chat was not strong enough and occasionally, we could not hear what each other was saying. My suggestion for all those who are completing video interviews is that you should try connecting to the interview in an area with a strong data connection.
The interviewer asked me a couple of questions that were quite generic and the questions could be found on Glassdoor. My suggestion is for you to read through other people's reviews of their interview and pick out questions from their interview to practice on before you go for an interview. I had prepared quite well before my interview so I though I did quite well.
I waited for a week after the interview for invitations for following up interviews. On the following Friday after my previous Friday's interview, I decided to contact HR to find out if I was going to proceed in my application. 3 hours later, HR came back to me saying unfortunately, the role has already been filled. This was on the 23 Sept 16.
UberEATS launched in my city now at the beginning of October 2016, so I guess they managed to hire someone with a shorter notice period than my 30 days notice period to start the initiative here. I was disappointed as I was really passionate about the opportunity at UberEATS but will keep an eye out for future opportunities and will apply again to Uber in the future. I also sent an email to my interviewer to thank her for spending her time interviewing me.
