Pros

Working at Sephora gives an individual many opportunities to gain an immense amount of knowledge about all of the products they carry there. Also, there are chances to travel to learn at Sephora University in San Francisco.

Cons

If you are not persistent about growing with the company and advancing your career there, it will not happen. A promotion is not gained easily. A person has to really want it and show a high level of interest and commitment to their job.

Pros

I had an amazing experience working at sephora it is def worth working at if you want to become a make up artist.

Cons

Some people get hired that aren't really good at make up and shouldn't be teaching anyone how to do make up.

Pros

The education is amazing. I have not experienced another company that values education of their employees on the level that Sephora does. Product knowledge and competence is highly important. If you love the beauty industry, then you are able to experience multiple sides of it (skincare, color, fragrance, high tech tools) and grow quickly in a professional aspect. The pay scale is higher upon entry level than other speciality retailers. If you have a fair amount of experience under your belt then the pay is considerable higher, but Sephora does not recognize schooling in the beauty industry as a legitimate reason for a pay increase. That said, the opportunity for bonuses on a monthly basis is always there.

Cons

It is so important to have the proper leadership team in place, regardless of how big or small that team may be. Your leadership team needs to be able to create a consistent message and relay that message to the cast daily. Miscommunication and disagreement amongst leadership teams creates chaos among your team and keeps them from preforming their job to the best of their abilities. Often, senior management spends too much time behind the scenes and not enough time on the floor coaching and and motivating their cast members. The standards and expectations for this company are very high. when the consistent standard and expectation is not met amongst leadership then there is no chance that your cast will adhere to those standards and expectations. Oportunities for advancement are sometimes based more on personal likes and dislikes of people versus their actual ability to do their jobs. In my store, if the Specialist does not care for an employee on a personal level or their personalities dont mesh, then there is little chance that the person in question will be given a fair chance to grow and advance.
