Pros

There is Job security, The company provides very good health insurace, It is a big company with lots of diverse technical projects Lots of acquisitions bringing in new directions and talents Oracle is a "green" company, that has flexible hours, and promotes a culture of telecommuting and flexibility, so long as work gets done. It is culturally diverse.

Cons

1) abundant mediocrity 2) More rewards for playing politics rather than for technical skills 3) Too much of middle-management obsolescence. Incompetent managers and directors stiffling creativity of the engineering teams.

Pros

Oracle has a good brand recognition. you marketability increases, when you are looking or job. good work life balance (this is a downside too. you can sit in Oracle for many years without doing anything) There is opportunity to move with Oracle. You can move from engg to consulting to sales You can work at Oracle if you just want to collect salary and not do any real work

Cons

crappy middle management in applications division. culture is centered around pleasing manager and not doing the right thing or real work. work here if you can "thrive" in Oracle's corporate culture which requires you to have no consciousness or honesty

Pros

For certain levels of Engineers, hourly compensation instead of salary makes up for the often time of long hours. Inconsistent middle management and the challenge of transitioning to ITIL V3 is causing a lot of confusion within the IT team but this also creates opportunities for qualified people. Although there is generally little career guidance, I felt that one could create one's own program for advancement and if the individual was good at what they did, opportunities are often available. Basically one can write your own ticket. Telecommuting is supported and the tools work well.

Cons

Some poor middle management and poor leadership within the upper middle management tier. Depending upon department, raises were seldom seen or were so small that they were almost an insult many .
