Pros

I work at Lockheed Martin - MFC in Grand Prarie and the work culture is great. All 4 managers I've had so far have been well trained, helpful, and looked out for their teams in terms of promotions/time of/career development. The pay is less than what a software engineer would make at a more tech oriented company but I believe I am fairly compensated. The time off I get it phenomenal, I have allocated PTO time which I can take a moments notice (though it is better to give managers time to plan for vacation and such). But days where I am mentally exhausted and burnt out, I am enabled to take as much time as I need to recharge. The work is pretty interesting, technically challenging, and worthwhile to do.

Cons

The pay is probably the biggest con. That isn't to say I am severely underpaid, but in comparison to compaines like Bank of America, BCG, fintech, or other similar companies, I am paid far less. The other biggest con is that some of the technologies are outdated due to maintenance requirements of certain government contracts and such. For example, requiring some software to maintain a C++98 standard when we are on 2023.

Pros

Paid hourly, so overtime (often occurs) results in larger pay cheques

Cons

Always overtime Process heavy Year-end financial reviews always show positive growth, yet every year there are new reasons as to why raises will not be increased/actually more than inflation. A lot of turn-over with employees, which is good for costs as younger developers don't cost as much Not a lot of senior technical mentorship - either people leave, or those who stay move to management and then are too busy to technically manage.

Pros

Tuition reimbursement Job security 401k match Very unique problems and opportunities to touch different sectors(space, aero) Expected to only really ever work 40 hours. Requesting overtime is a separate process. Paid OT(with a gate of unpaid hours first)

Cons

A lot of the work is classified or in person Not always modern technologies Annual raises are way too low(3% average) They lowered the maximum/average raise and replaced it with an annual bonus of ~3%. You may earn more each year but over time you'll be earning significantly less. Management matrix means the one in charge of your pay doesn't work with you every day and doesn't know what you're working on while the one you work with every day has minimal impact. Rewards for exceptional behavior or projects are minimal. Recognition non-existent. Lots of politics at the management level and above. Constant anxiety around charging your time accurately, to the point of veiled threats from the company
