Pros

Saying I worked for Lockheed brought credibility in social circles.

Cons

The company is bloated, very little actually gets done. Management is penny wise and pound foolish. Job security is null and is more politically based then productivity based. You can get good reviews and still get cut. They expect maximum dedication in exchange for minimum reward. Their cost cutting efforts also focus on employee compensation and benefits. It's a 'go nowhere' job for the most part. I wouldn't recommend working there unless you wanted to stay stagnant in your career.

Pros

Great place to start a career, a lot of development programs, got education paid for, training for PM certification and other courses was available. HOwever, I had the right management support to get all of this accomplished. Not many people were as lucky.

Cons

It's hard to get a promotion, they only "promote" you; when you have been doing the work of 2 people for 2 years straight. Manament is changing constantly and performance reviews are unfair and given by a manager who you do not directly report to. There is no 360 performance review, management needs to be leaned out. Keep the competent people, and get rid of the excess, i.e., management. Training is hard to come by unless you add it to your Professional training plan early in the year; but there are always "budget" issues, and training is hard to come by as you advance on your career.

Pros

It's an ok place to start your career. I recommend to get all you can out of them within the first 6 months - 1 year. that's where you'll receive the maximum value.

Cons

I met a woman who worked for them for 19 years. At 19.5 years, they let her go even though she found another project to rotate to b/c they didn't want to pay her a pension.
