Pros

Big 4 experience has a lot of opportunities for travel (double edged sword). I got to see a lot of impressive places (US and international) and got to work on a lot of big name clients. You’re surrounded by a bunch of really smart motivated people.

Cons

The other side of the smart motivated people is that people take credit for others work, throwing co-workers ‘under the bus’ if the time/budget isn’t met. I had a real since that if I wasn’t the favorite of the manager I was working for I wasn’t going to have a strong advocate at the meetings to rank the staff (e.g. salary increase/bonus)

Pros

KPMG is a good company to start your career with. You'll be able to see the inner workings of your clients and find out what works and what doesn't. The compensation and benefits are also very good compared to other jobs coming out of college.

Cons

The hours can be long, and this varies by practice and office. Some groups work much more than others. Management is very inconsistent. Although the firm has no shortage of policies and codes of conduct, individual managers have a lot of discretion and can be erratic and inconsistent with their requirements. Some managers are very stingy in their performance reviews and others are generous.

Pros

Looks great on a resume. Good way to start out your career since KPMG has training programs set up each year for the first few years you are with the firm.

Cons

Long hours are not negotiable. Plus once you are in a group it is very difficult to learn new things about the area you are in. Cross functional assignment are generally looked down upon unless there is a direct benefit to the firm.
