Pros

Good to learn politics and talent crushing Learn How to make things slow Learn to escalate unnecessary Job security

Cons

Shell SBO is basically a back office for Shell Global and even though there are good projects they all suffer due to high level of politics. Employee is always on the mercy of his/her manager. It is required to change role every 4 years due to HR policy so you will find very limited specialists in the system and that slows down the whole process. Notice period is strictly 3 months and employees don’t have option to raise resignation in the online system. Email is the only way to raise resignation and then chase your manager to confirm on your last working day.

Early career engineers are given significant ownership and exposure to complex operational challenges. Strong focus on safety, technical development, and collaboration across disciplines. Opportunities to work on high-impact projects, interact with senior leadership, and contribute to decisions affecting major assets and infrastructure.

Workloads can be demanding, and priorities can shift quickly based on operational needs. Decision-making processes can be slow due to organizational complexity, and geographic mobility may be necessary for certain career opportunities.
