Pros

Having a job. Wonderful people left over from mergers with Merril Lynch and Barclays Globals Investors. (Note that many of these are being terminated and are gleefully accepting severance. HR is amazed at the joyfull responses they are receiveing upon delivering the news.)

Cons

IT Senior management are a formidable clique which shuns consultants, and any outside input. This is a key reason that their "technology" is stuck in the 90's. The frustrating, sad, embarrassing thing is that they really think that they are the innovators. (Doubt me? ask any BlackRocker about the "Genie Tool bar".) No respect for the worker bee. This is a slave ship. The happiest day of my professional life came when I was told that my job was redundant and I had till Dec. 31, 2010 to pack my desk. :)

Pros

Branding branding branding!!! an incredible brand, and having it on your resume opens some doors but not all.

Cons

The Preqin acquisition never really found its identity after becoming part of BlackRock. It felt like the focus shifted from listening to clients to fitting Preqin into a broader BlackRock strategy. As AI changes how firms access and analyze private market data, simply being a data provider isn’t enough anymore. My impression was that Preqin’s long-term value is likely to come from being integrated into the broader Aladdin ecosystem and APIs, rather than remaining a standalone platform. Leadership would benefit from spending more time listening to customers and the teams on the front lines instead of assuming they already know what the market wants.
