Pros

Reputation; there are some really great people there (not the ones with the influence unfortunately) and some interesting projects

Cons

Extremely political and cutthroat: the diversity and inclusion efforts are merely a facade to save face. There is no work life balance - they tout flexible time off as a benefit but most people are scared to actually use it. Everyone works around the clock - if you don’t, you’re not respected. Either you conform to BlackRock or you’re an outsider. High performing individual contributors are given management roles with ZERO training, and generally speaking the middle managers are horrible. They *say* the right things about D&I, work life balance, mental health, etc but it’s not actually put into practice - again, it’s all for show. The people who are innovators and try to push for change are squashed.

Pros

Branding branding branding!!! an incredible brand, and having it on your resume opens some doors but not all.

Cons

The Preqin acquisition never really found its identity after becoming part of BlackRock. It felt like the focus shifted from listening to clients to fitting Preqin into a broader BlackRock strategy. As AI changes how firms access and analyze private market data, simply being a data provider isn’t enough anymore. My impression was that Preqin’s long-term value is likely to come from being integrated into the broader Aladdin ecosystem and APIs, rather than remaining a standalone platform. Leadership would benefit from spending more time listening to customers and the teams on the front lines instead of assuming they already know what the market wants.
