Pros

Charitable. Respected brand name. If you like junk food and dressing up, it can be fun - competitions, rewards points to purchase items. On the whole colleagues are friendly.

Cons

Bullying, favouritism, lack of hearing - listen as an exercise but do not hear, lack of action on problems, lack of respect, lack of recognition of employees skills and experience gained outside of the company. Mentoring, support and promotion if your face fits. If your face doesn't fit, all the great experience in the world will be met with a brick wall. I have watched people whom I have trained myself, be picked up and put in positions of authority in no time at all, because they are friends with the team leader. After bringing a huge problem with a team leader to the attention of senior management, one level and two levels above and also reporting to the ombudsperson, I know that nothing has changed. I left a couple of months ago and I did not make a formal complaint at the time, just gave feedback for the sake of the other team members. Now I am going to make my complaint formal. Why are team leaders allowed to get away with unacceptable behaviour? I am disgusted at the lack of respect shown to employees.

Pros

They have fantastic pay for the position you're in, and they teach you interesting and engaging utility of modern technology mixed with legacy fundamentals. I've learned quite a bit while AmEx while getting paid more than fairly - I'd recommend a stretch here to whomever may be reading this!

Cons

The Company is huge, and at times it may take more than a little time to get recognized for your abilities and the growth you've had. There's a reason there is a "only way up is out" reputation exists for some enterprise companies...
