      Pros

      Awesome place to get exposure to a multitude of clients. The firm weeds out the bottom performers so most people are at least competent.

      Cons

      Your success depends on who you know--you spend most of your non-working-hours cultivating relationships with people inside the firm who can further your career inside of the firm. Drink the coolaid or you will be marginalized and shunned.

      Many partners in the Federal Government Practice are very self-centered, and are primarily focused on personal success, rather than team success. Many expect junior practitioners to worship them, otherwise your chances of promotion are slim to none Wildly political, pathologically stressful, cut-throat environment. Partners of different divisions are always competing against each other. Many PPDs (Principals/Partners/Directors) do not respond to emails, are often economical with the truth, insincere in their interactions with staff. Promotion is relationship based, not metrics based. The political savvy tend to do very well in this environment, at the expense of the not too political savvy and possibly more deserving
