Pros

I came from another company that was bought out by DHL. They gave us offers and moved us to Scottsdale. The move packages were pretty fair, also I was able to keep my seniority with the company (the number of years worked), I was able to keep my previous pension as well as the new one with DHL, my 401k got better and my vacation time didn't change. As an international company you do get a lot of opportunities to work with a lot of nationalities, and in some cases the opportunity to travel globally. I also find my job personally enjoyable which is probably the main reason I'm still there.

Cons

DHL is owned by Deutsche Post of Germany, it is not an American company nor is it a fortune 500 company. The Germans do business a lot different than I was use to, and in my opinion not a very employee friendly company. They seem to be very unorganized and constantly changing things without letting any of the changes have time to make a difference. In the current atmosphere there is a lot of uncertainty due to job reduction in the business side and in the production run side we are in the middle of negotiations with HP to sell us.

Pros

DHL is the best at international Transportation of small parcels.

Cons

DHL has been losing money for about 8 years now. In the early 2000s the german post office bought DHL and then in 2003 the German post office bought Airborne. in 2004 they merged the two companies together and their losses have increased every year since then. There is still a great divide in the company between the former employees of each company. Senior management seems to be making mistake after mistake. DHL is now downsizing and contracting many company functions out. DHL main hub is in Wilmington OH where DHL has the largest privately owned Airport. Their frieght is flown by two different airlines in and out of Wilmington and their east and west hubs. DHL will be closing it's hubs UPS will be flying dHL's freight in the near future. Despite their efforts and laying off 300 employees (745 already and 2000-2500 to come) DHL is projecting to lose 1.4 billion dollars next year, up from 960 million in 2007
