Pros

1) Good work/life balance 2) Decent pay and benefits 3) Working with engines is interesting if you are a gearhead. 4) It is encouraged to move around and try different roles every couple of years.

Cons

1) The problem with employees changing roles every couple of years is that a lot of people aren’t very experienced in their current role. This is especially an issue with middle management. Many people are promoted to team lead positions that have no formal management training whatsoever. 2) Cummins uses a forced distribution rating and ranking system for evaluating employees’ performance. I don’t really have to explain why this is a terrible idea. 3) Too much emphasis on extracurriculars. Whether or not an employee chooses to do community service should have zero impact on their performance rating/ranking. I have actually had a manager admit that it can be a factor. 4) Diversity for the sake of diversity sometimes seems to be a higher priority than product quality, cost, and performance. 5) There are too many complicated, drawn out processes to accomplish simple tasks. Too much time spent presenting project updates in hour long (or longer) meetings when brief, verbal updates to key individuals would suffice. 6) Most locations have switched to a “collaborative workspace” open seating arrangement. This means that no one has an assigned desk and teams do not necessarily sit together. It is nothing but a massive inconvenience. 7) Columbus, IN is a small, dull town with a surprisingly high cost of living. Recommend living closer to Indy (Franklin, Greenwood, etc.).

Pros

Cummins Power Generation can provide total solutions on a very wide range in the industry. With most of the technology inhouse they have potential gold in hands

Cons

Appart from a few products most are based on relative old technology and positioned conservative which makes the company often less competitive. The pricing structure is far from competitive. Often price differences to competitors are 10-20% higher without providing added value (whilst the factories keep their margin high). Distribution and lead times are often poor and much longer than the conpetition. The supply chain organisation does not seem to realize what market demand is and seem inwilling to positively contribute to change management to get a winning position. Promotion seems relative low against the competition. Both on commercial/advertory as personal promotion or fairs/shows the actions taken do not clealry position the company as a leader in the power generation segment. A missed opportunity as visibility is one of the first requirements to get know by your clients. Look at what competitors like CAT and MTU do. Growing business means investing in all of the above mentioned points but most of all investing in people, not just salary, training, the right resources, the right amount of resouces. HR/comp&benefits policy in this company is a nightmare. They lack any reality view of what goes on in business or the world and yet they have the formal power to decide alot about peoples carreers.

Pros

Good work life balance, lots of training opportunities. Good mix of male/female ratio. Good for college hire position but after that it's best to move out.

Cons

Poor HR function - incompetent offers with mere to no raises for promotions. Salary is not competitive for good performers as well. A lot of politics and HR has a final say on salary. They will come up with ways to reduce your increase. Rich get richer, poor get poorer.
