An okay place to work, but there are pockets of mediocre middle/semi senior management who spoils it for the rest of us.

Pros

A lot of nice people who can work well with others. Inclusive culture, a lot of team work demonstrated across levels and countries. A relatively flat organisational structure. Senior management generally appears very accessible and competent.

Cons

Tend to treat internal people poorly compared with new hires. New hires tend to get paid better at the same level as internally promoted staff. Certain managers focus too narrowly on the short term. Functional people in the smaller offices may have to multi-task and multi role resulting in a very stretched team. Resources can be spread very thin but the goals given are still tough.

Pros

BD is an ethical company that is making an effort to be more diverse and more in touch with a younger generation. Many, not all, managers are in tune with their direct report's needs to maintain a work/life balance.

Cons

It is difficult to get promoted to a Director level or above. More often than not, these positions are filled by outside hires. You're better off leaving and coming back in a higher position. They go through firing / hiring cycles that are demotivating (e.g., laying off 10-20 people in a particular job group, and within 6-12 months, posting positions for hire in the same group). If you are a favorite of the VPs, you are allowed to practice bad behaviours with your direct reports and general management activities.

Cons

Many parts of BD are extremely slow moving, making change difficult when it is needed.
