Pros

Working with many of the brightest technologist in the business is the biggest benefit to working at Avanade. Peer support is high, and there is a LOT of communication despite the large distances between many of the consultants. There is no concept of "minimum years at position" before a promotion, so in theory the best and brightest can bubble up to the top as soon as they're ready.

Cons

Travel is the #1 drawback to working for a global consulting company, such as Avanade. Consultants must be prepared to spend long hours in the air and lots of time away from their homes. There isn't a lot of transparency into the salary structure, and reviews are only conducted once a year. This can lead to large time gaps between opportunities for promotion and advancement. Also, the bonus program is pretty poultry.

Pros

There are a lot of opportunities that can be taken advantage of if one is motivated enough to do so. Free access to MSDN for technology and also free access to Books24x7.com. E-mail communities are an outstanding resource for new technology reviews and recommendations on how to solve problems you may have at customer site. There are very smart people to work with that can really help develop your career and advance your knowledge it you are willing to take the time to learn from them and ask questions. Also get extended benefits that allows an employee up to $2000 dollars a year to spend on technology or work-life balance promoting activies that will be remimbursed by the company.

Cons

I don't feel like I had the right expectations of the position I was hired for. They hired me despite my lack of programming experience and then you are expected to be able to program the first day on a customer site. They offer many rescources to teach yourself programming, but on top of already working a 40+ hour work week and travelling, it is very hard to motivate yourself to study on the weekends, especially if programming doesn't come naturally. I expected more of a requirements gathering and solution proposal opportunity, but was really hired to be a customer facing programmer/coder.

Pros

Great experience, really smart people. Training is paid for. Great initial training program for college grads. Great access to microsoft tools. Great communities for knowledge sharing and entertainment. Good medical plan. Gadget fund.

Cons

You can get put into a position early and not have a lot to say about what you are doing. Travel and staying in hotels can be tough. There may not be as much travel as initially told. You will need to learn a lot of things for yourself. Unclear on compensation. No stock options for lower level employees.
