What is your expected hourly rate

They asked me about what skills I could bring aside from my motion design capabilities. If I had any experience in graphic design, storyboarding, or InDesign. These weren't questions that I was necessarily expecting, but are totally reasonable questions to ask given how closely motion design links to these other disciplines. Also as company of a modest size, it's inevitable that they will be interested in trying to find candidates who can apply themselves across a few areas. So while I wasn't expecting this question, I completely understand why it was asked.
If you were asked to create a visual effect that you had no idea how to execute with software you've never used before, what would you say/do?
