Questions about whether I have worked in telehealth before. The interviewer seemed to make a hiring decision without asking many follow up questions or conducting a thorough interview.
It was frustrating at times to get all my references to reply, especially since my former employer is not the most professional.
1. Tell us about yourself 2. How do you deal with a difficult counselor? 3. What do you bring on the table? 4. What are your strength?
Questions: Tell me about yourself How do you conduct a first mental health visit? What tests do you use during the first visit? Tell me about a difficult client you had. Tell me an experience when you dealt with a suicidal client? (One of the interviewers frowned as a sign of disapproval when I described a real story and what I have learned from it. It was very rude!) Your short term goals and long term goals. My questions: When I asked about the greatest challenge of the role, they replied saying I It was challenging to get other professionals to work as a team; it would be my job to teach them how my role as a counselor impact the patient’s health. I would have to get into their world in order to get the message across. (It goes against the hospital mission that puts emphasis on “team work”..it made me confused because it seems that when it comes to team work, ‘they talk the talk but don’t walk the walk’. Other challenge: I would have to walk around the hospital now and then to get more referrals for the counseling clinic…it contradicted what one interviewer told a minute before, saying that I would be busy all day…so, how can I walk around the hospital if I’m busy all day?...how confusing!!! The three interviewers were not in the same boat when describing the job requirements and my role; I left this interview tense and feeling unwelcome. I decided to trust my feelings and decline the job.
