In this puzzle a prisoner is faced with a decision where he must open one of 2 doors. Each of the doors has a statement written on it. Behind each door is either a princess or a tiger. If the prisoner opens a door to find a princess, he will go free and if he opens a door to find a tiger he will be eaten alive. Prisoner can also refuse to open any door if he is certain that both rooms have tigers in them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Problem 1: Which door is safe to open if we know that statement on one of the doors is true and statement on the other one is false? Statement on Door 1: “In this room there is a princess, and in the other room there is a tiger.” Statement on Door 2: “In one of these rooms there is a princess, and in one of these rooms there is a tiger.” If statement on door 1 is true, door 1 is safe. If statement on door 2 is true, no door is safe.
