How would you measure how much adding an auto-complete functionality to a search adds to an overhead in the backend. The correct response was to measure the delay on the client side and compare the difference. Followup question: now when you have a file which contains the delays for a hundreds of millions of measurements (separate files for before and after) how would you know whats the difference. Simply measuring the average before and after was an acceptable answer. Followups included how to average the top N values from the file and where would bottlenecks be.
