I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA) in Nov 2010
Interview
Initial communications included an email from a generic recruiter regarding the position applied for. There was also a phone call with an initial phone screen from that same recruiter. You were required to fill out a questionnaire that had some technical and some generic questions on it. if you pased the initial phone screen with the recruiter, you were contacted by a recruiter specific to the team hiring for that position. This person was not necessarily the hiring authority. They asked similar questions to the technical questions on the questionnaire, and then addition behavioral questions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Most unexpected question was related to the travel for the job. The job didn't say it wasn't located in another city/state, yet when interviewed I was asked if I would be willing to relocate.
The interview process consisted of four progressively structured rounds, each designed to assess a different dimension of my product thinking, system architecture capabilities, and execution maturity. The rounds were intentionally sequenced to move from high-level problem framing to detailed solution design and delivery planning.
It was great overall, all the interviewers were very friendly and had a good for me. Although I got the position but the role got cancelled due to changes in the priority of Microsoft's strategic initiatives.
