Interview
I had an initial screening call with the recruiter with the usual questions covering my current role, Kraken and the team I would be joining.
I was told they were looking to fill the role in about 1-2 weeks. It would be a quick process with a take-home task, followed by a couple of interviews with different parts of the company. That was 2 months ago.
While the people I spoke to were lovely their communication was awful. Questions would take a few days to get answered, if at all. Interviews would get scheduled with me but not actually booked with the team on the other side. I would get different conflicting information about next steps from different people involved too. It seems like there's always another stage to go.
It's been two weeks since I last received a response, so I would assume I'm not going any further.

Interview
Initial screen with internal recruiter followed by a Django tech test (take home). The tech test is expected to take 3 hours and was fun, and I appreciated that it linked to the industry. The tech test is followed by a technical interview about the approach you took, any improvements you could make and general questions on APIs.
Whilst all the people I spoke to were pleasant, I did have an overly negative experience:
- salary was not transparent; despite the job ad saying “just ask”, I wasn’t told the range when asked, or how the equity works. I was told the maximum salary for the position, but overall it seemed a bit vague, which seems to tally with a lot of the negative reviews from staff.
- I had to keep checking in because i wouldn’t hear feedback for weeks between stages - I shouldn’t need to do this, especially after giving 5 hours to the process. It didn’t seem very organised.
- the team who interviewed me didn’t seem to know the exact position I was applying for

The interview process is quite fast and can be completed within a few weeks. The take-home assignment is straightforward but somewhat vague in its requirements. That said, they were pleasant to speak with overall.
