      Security Area Sales Manager Interview

      May 20, 2026
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Johnson Controls in May 2026

      Interview

The interview started professionally, but the tone noticeably changed once I mentioned that both my university degree and previous work experience were obtained in Europe. After that, the interviewer became significantly less engaged, interrupted answers, and did not allow me to properly elaborate on my experience or qualifications. One of the follow-up questions was cut off before I could even fully respond. The overall experience left the impression that my international background may have negatively influenced the conversation early in the process, rather than my actual skills, achievements, or ability to perform in the role. For a global company that publicly promotes diversity and inclusion, the interaction felt surprisingly dismissive toward non-Canadian professional and educational experience. Even if unintentional, the interview came across as biased and unprofessional. Candidates should be evaluated based on competence, communication, and results — not primarily on where their degree or prior experience originates from. Interview questions were relatively standard, but the interview itself felt rushed and one-sided after discussing my background.
