Interview
The first round interview is with an alumni from your school. The interview is a strictly behavioral interview. They ask typical questions, like what did you do in such and such situation.
The second interview is a purely technical interview, focused on automotive design. The interview goes through experiences in design, lessons learned form those experiences, and then specific questions about how you would go about designing specific parts.

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Cummins (Madison, WI) in Nov 2009
Interview
At the time(2009) the business had the purse strings fairly tight, so I had a series of about 2 phone interviews. The first was a one on one with an engineer who was an alumni at my university. After about 2 months, I had another with my future manager and the leader of the division. After that some price negotiation was done. Whole process lasted ~3-4 months.
