I applied online. I interviewed at Booking.com (Amsterdam) in Jul 2017
Interview
Probably one of the worst interviews I've done in a while. Although they got back to me fairly quickly, I felt through the entire interview that they weren't interested. It was best if they had refused me from the beginning.
I applied for a senior position, sent out my resumé and got a response that "the position wasn't the best for me" and offered if I wanted to apply to a different non-senior Software Engineer position, even though my experience ranges for over 7 years. I accepted nonetheless and took it as a challenge to prove my worth. No phone call, no way for me to introduce myself, just straight ahead to an online coding challenge. I got the challenge and only had 1hr 15min to code 5 different challenges, all ranging from easy to medium difficulty.
Even though I had the solution in mind for every challenge, 1hr was NOT enough time to complete it all. I felt as the recruiter almost set it the challenge up for failure on purpose. Writing the implementation for each one with good coding standards, testing for every scenario mentioned PLUS all the hidden scenarios is not something one can do with in a such short amount of time. I've interviewed at other and bigger companies with tougher interviewing processes and I was given at least 2hr30min to complete two questions... Now imagine 5!
After my follow up with the recruiter explaining that I'd be more than willing to complete all the remaining challenges, I just got a response with "you can apply again in 6 months".
In short, I do not recommend it. Don't waste your time here, they are not willing to hear your story.

Given multiple entries of four points A, B, C and D identify and count how many are squares, rectangles, or none.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Booking.com (Manchester, Angleterre) in Jun 2015
Interview
Informal chat with the Technical Lead and Head of the department. It was an informal interview and really sold the vision of the company too me. I received a lot of technical questions regarding my background but overall it was a fairly easy and straightforward process.
Having joined the company I've been a large part of hiring the vast majority of the engineering team so our interview process has changed significantly since.

Interview
They now use hackerrank to test, 4 tasks in 75 minutes! The tasks are not difficult at all, but time consuming.
I doubt there's anyone who can even just type in the code in that short time-frame, not to mention time to understand and analyze a task.
What kind of idiot came up with such testing?
