I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Amazon (Cape Town) in Sep 2024
Interview
The interview process, starts by an online assessment for culture and values. Followed by a technical (30 Min) and behavioral interview (30 min) which makes it an hour. The first interview touches on Networking, OS and a little bit of trouble shooting such as Curl, commands. The4n if you successful, you go for the on-site interview of 4 hours (4 interviewers 2 Managers (From another domain and from the domain you are applying for depending if is Linux/serverless/Database and all that) and 2 Senior Cloud Support Engineers. The on-site is hectic and the senior engineers are focusing on different topics the first one focuses on OS, Networking and Troubleshooting (Advanced concepts unlike the first technical interview) then the Second Engineer focuses on questions around the domain you applied for could be (Serverless/Linux/Windows/Content delivery/ML etc), so you need to know your story. On the other hand the managers interviews, for the manager of the domain you applied for is a bit more advanced than the Senior engineers but focuses more on experience such as previous projects not exactly asking technical question directly but ask follow up question after your response such as wha5t tools did you use, what could have went wrong?. Lastly, the other manager is more into the culture and behavioral question, you have to make sure you nail this one since its called bae raiser.
I didn't pass the on-site, I did not do well on one of the interviews (Senior Engineer -OS and Networking), The interviewer was asking very difficult questions and it was the last interviews was also tired as well. However, Because of the first 3 interviewers I was offered a role for a role below the one I applied for.
