      Sr Program Manager Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Amazon in Feb 2020

      Interview

I applied online and also received a referral from a current Amazon employee. A recruiter reached out asking me to outline my comp expectations, provide an updated resume and provided a link to an online assessment which I was told would take approximately an hour - all of which had to be complete prior to my first discussion with them. The assessment included five simulated experiences which I had to act on, the point being to understand my strategic sensibilities and overall thought process when tackling work tasks. A few days later I had a phone interview with my recruiter, which I was told would last 30 minutes. The recruiter called me ten minutes late complaining about tech issues and allergies, and our discussion lasted less than 15 minutes. I walked through my previous resume and they briefed me on the position. Unfortunately many of my questions couldn't be answered, and it was very clear they didn't know much about the specific position or revenue org (Can you tell me about the Amazon office/presence in my city? How is the Sales team organized? How is work for this role initiated? What is the onboarding process?). The recruiter did not ask me about my work experience, although I offered to elaborate on areas or answer any questions. Before hanging up I was told they would be in touch on next steps. The next morning I sent a thank you note expressing interest in staying in touch and learning more about the role, then I noticed a form email in my junk folder that was sent less than an hour after my call ended. It expressed that Amazon would not be moving forward and would not be able to provide feedback on my application. I can certainly handle the let down, but I'm disappointed in the recruiter's lack of interest in my phone call and rushed approach.
